Upon arrival in Taiwan, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn tweeted this..."I will not be bullied by Communist China into turning my back on the island." During a meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen on Aug. 26, the two sides discussed bilateral economic cooperation.
U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn arrived in Taiwan late on the night of the 25th, marking the third visit by a member of the U.S. Congress in August. Blackburn also released a statement saying "I will not be bullied by Communist China into turning my back on the island." The senator, a member of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, has proposed a number of Taiwan-friendly bills in Congress and last visited Taiwan in 2008. Blackburn met with Tsai Ing-wen on the 26th.
Marsha Blackburn, US Senator: “We have loving freedom, loving democracy, and it is important, indeed, that freedom-loving nations support Taiwan as they seek to preserve their independence and their freedom.”
During the meeting, the senator from Tennessee said manufacturers in her state are heavily dependent on semiconductors and she hopes to strengthen bilateral cooperation. In response, Tsai said she also hopes to be incorporated into the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity and other regional frameworks.
Tsai Ing-wen, ROC President: “China continues to hold extended military exercises, showing it is an authoritarian nation. It is interfering with and threatening the world order and democratic countries should stand united and work together to jointly defend the values of democracy and freedom.”
Tsai said the "heartwarming actions and steadfast support" from American politicians have strengthened Taiwan's commitment to self-defense. The U.S. State Department, meanwhile, reiterated that visits by members of Congress are in standing with the U.S.' long-term commitment to the one-China policy and the U.S. will continue to support Taiwan in accordance with policy.
深夜搭乘專機抵台，美國參議員布蕾波恩是繼美國眾議院議長裴洛西之後8月第3度來訪的國會議員，她更特地中文在推特上表示訪台是為了向北京傳達「我們不會接受霸凌」的訊息，布蕾波恩是國會台灣連線成員，也曾在國會提出多項友台法案，這也是她繼2008年之後再度訪台，26日也與總統蔡英文會面。
美國參議員布蕾波恩表示：「美台都熱愛自由熱愛民主，而且非常重要的是，自由民主國家都該支持台灣，讓他們能夠繼續保持自己的獨立以及自由。」
布蕾波恩是田納西州參議員，也在會面時當面表達，田納西製造業仰賴半導體產業，此行要加強美台合作，總統蔡英文也希望能夠進一步融入印太經濟架構等區域合作經濟架構。
蔡英文表示：「中國持續進行長時間的軍演，都顯示出威權主義國家對世界秩序所帶來的干擾以及威脅，民主國家更應該團結合作，共同捍衛民主自由價值的堅定防線。」
蔡英文表示近期美國人士相繼訪台，這些溫暖行動以及堅定支持都再次強化台灣自我防衛決心，美國國務院也重申，議員訪台符合美國長年一中政策，美國會持續依照政策支持台灣。
