Five-Day Han Kuang Exercise Opens on July 13|

The No. 36 Han Kuang exercise opened on July 13. Due to COVID-19, the exercise incorporated a drill to prepare for biological threats in Kaohsiung for the first time. Meanwhile, military aircraft could be seen flying from western Taiwan to Hualien and Taitung in the morning.

The exercise opened at 6 a.m. with two C-130s taking off from Taichung Airport for Hualien Air Force Base. Seven C-130s from Pingtung and IDFs from Hsinchu, meanwhile, headed to Taitung Air Force Base. Meanwhile, At Kaohsiung's E-Da Hospital, a biological emergency exercise was held to simulate an explosion outside a veterans' home. Chemical troops arrived and disinfected the area. At the hospital, patients had to undergo a second round of disinfection. This is the first time the Han Kuang exercise incorporated a special biological threat response drill due to COVID-19.
