Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has once again caused a stir with his words. DPP Legislator Tuan Yi-kang recently said that Ko is like Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu, but better at taking tests. Ko responded to the comment, asking whether President Tsai Ing-wen is also like Han, but only worse at taking exams, and whether Secretary-General Chen Chu is just a fatter version of Han. Ko did not respond to media reports on him being out of line. He did apologized for spilling the beans on supermodel Lin Chi-ling being pregnant.
Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has once again caused a stir with his words. During a recent interview, Ko spilled the beans on supermodel Lin Chi-ling being pregnant. His words have since drawn criticism from many who said he breached the trust as a former doctor and that he might have violated the Physicians Act by releasing the secret of a patient. When members of the media pressed on, Ko apologized for the matter.
Honestly, I think my gender equality education is inadequate. (Will you apologize?) (Tell Lin Chi-ling about it?) Okay, I'll apologize for the matter. (Are you worried that your words could have damaged NTU Hospital's reputation?) No. This has nothing to do with the hospital.
After he apologized to Lin, members of the media asked Ko about a recent statement by the DPP Legislator Tuan Yi-kang, who said in a Facebook post that Ko is just like Han Kuo-yu, except being better at taking exams. In his response to the statement, Ko criticized President Tsai Ing-wen and Secretary-General Chen Chu.
(According to Tuan's logic), isn't President Tsai just like Han Kuo-yu but the version of who is not good at taking exams? Isn't Secretary-General Chen Chu a fatter version of Han? (Mr. Mayor, have you gone a bit overboard?) If the New Tide faction (in the ruling DPP) wants to start a war, I'll fight it to the end.
Ko's remarks have reminded some of the words from KMT Chairperson Wu Den-yih, who came under fire for joking about Chen Chu's physical shape. Wu is currently busy trying to get all party members to fall in line. However, the camp of KMT member and former Foxconn CEO Terry Gou recently said that Gou will not meet with Wu before September 17, the deadline for registering as a presidential candidate. In his remarks, Wu hinted at Gou not being delivering on his words.
All five candidates have made such a promise that, only the one who wins in the KMT primary race can run for president, and we should all stay true to our words. (What do you do now that he won't be meeting with you before September 17?) We need to both agree on a meeting for that to happen.
Wu said that he has asked Deputy KMT Chair Hau Lung-pin to communicate with Gou in hopes for the meeting to take place at some point.
