Residential Fire in Tamsui Kills 3, Injures 1 |新北市淡水公寓火警 祖孫三代3死1重傷

A tragic fire started in New Taipei City's Tamsui early in the morning. Police and firefighters rushed to the scene, only to be able to rescue one victim from a family of four. The 76-year-old grandfather survivor suffered burns to 90 percent of her body.

Please, let us pass.

Firefighters were called to the scene of a residential fire in Tamsui at 3 a.m. on the 8th. The fire started on the third floor of the five-story building, which had wooden partitions between rooms. By the time the rescue team made it inside, three of the four residents had perished.

The fire was blazing when we arrived. Because the interior of the apartment was all wood, the fire spread quickly.

Firefighters found the bodies of a 40-year-old man and his 7-year-old son in the first bedroom and the body of the 76-year-old grandfather on the balcony. The 68-year-old grandmother was still alive when they found her, but she had suffered burns to 90 percent of her body. She was immediately rushed to the hospital. The family's neighbors, a family of three, were also treated for smoke inhalation. Firefighters evacuated many residents around the block.

(Was there any answer when you knocked on the door of the third floor?) No. (None?) Right. The fire was already huge by then. (Was there both smoke and fire?) Yes. The fire had already made its way outside.

In total, 112 firefighters and 42 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene and the fire was brought under control within half an hour. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters say smoke alarms should always be installed in older buildings. In addition, fire-resistant walls and panels can save lives in the event of a fire.
