Taipei Zoo Will Close For 12 Days Next Year|台北動物園每年多休12天 明年試辦!


The public recently voted to let the animals at the Taipei Zoo take a 12 day vacation every year. Over 98 percent of voters supported allowing the zoo to close for 12 days a year. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je said he was surprised at the high support for the proposal and said they would try the plan out next year.

Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je also made an appearance, visiting the flower field and browsing the local market. April is Children's Month in Taipei. Taipei Zoo recently polled the public on whether they support the zoo closing 12 days a year. Over 98 percent said yes, which was a huge surprise to Ko.

Honestly speaking, there was a huge disparity with the results of the vote. 92 [98] percent voted in favor of the zoo having two weeks off a year. Since this is the case, I think we should give it a try and see what happens.

Ko also said animals need vacation time too and the change would reduce the zoo's manpower requirements. Just 1.7 percent opposed the idea. Annual closure will start in 2019, with the zoo scheduled to close from June 19 to 30 next year.
