The number of Chinese tourists coming to Taiwan has gone down drastically so tourist sites are trying new ways to attract more visitors. Yehliu Geopark is experimenting with nighttime activities.
The majority of the tourists buying tickets at the box office of the Yehliu Geopark are from South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong. Despite the growing number of Southeast Asian tourists, local business owners said their buying power is much lower than Chinese tourists. The slowing business has led many local shops to close their doors. But even for Chinese tourists, the Geopark is more of a scenic destination than a shopping area.
I love the geological features. I'll buy some stuff for my return (to China) after I get to Taipei City.
The management office at Yehliu Geopark plans to experiment with activities at nighttime towards the end of April to attract more tourists. The ticket price will be set at NT$200, 150 percent of the daytime price.
We limit the number of entries to ensure everyone's safety during the evenings, when visibility is poor. On the other hand, we also need to take cost into consideration. Even with the higher ticket price, we are still having a hard time covering our cost.
On top of opening the park during nighttime, the management office is also planning to hold live concerts, though the number of tickets for each concert will be limited to 300. The office said they will extend the activity if it is well received.
