Hong Kong authorities have arrested a 60-year-old man surnamed Cheung, for arson after a fire broke out in a subway car at 7:14 in the evening. The fire shut down the busy Tsim Sha Tsui station in central Kowloon. Police said there was no evidence to indicate the fire was a terror attack. ==YAU CHI-ON deputy chief fire officer== According to our primary investigation, and statements from injured people, we suspect that someone lit a flammable liquid. Police District Commander Kwok Pak-chung said the man told rescuers he was the one who set the fire, and he had done so for an unspecified personal reason. ==KWOK PAK-CHUNG, police district commander== According to our investigation so far, we believe this incident is related to personal reasons. This is an individual case. So far there is no information showing this is a terrorist attack, nor an attack targeting public transport. Online media footage, which could not be independently verified, showed people beating out the flames on a man's legs as he lay on the platform. Kwok told reporters the man, whose trousers appeared to be completely burned, was likely to be Cheung, who was seriously injured in the incident. Another online video showed flames burning several items scattered inside the train. It then showed a crowd on the platform who appeared calm as they pointed their phones at the fire. ==KWOK PAK-CHUNG police district commander== When the suspect was being sent to the hospital he said to our colleagues he set the fire for personal reasons. His speech was incoherent. 18 people were injured, two critically, but the information provided by the government did not indicate whether these included the suspect. TRANSLATED BY:CLARE LEAR
