It's a dark twist on an old fairground favourite. The "House of Mirrors" is an elaborate maze designed to disorient and make people search for a way out. It takes some people over one hour to walk through this particular one! Welcome to the mirror maze. A baffling series of walls of mirrors, leading you into confusion and perhaps delight. Melbourne artists Christian Wagstaff and Keith Courtney created the temporary installation without any digital effects. ==CHRISTIAN WAGSTAFF, "House of Mirrors" designer== So we didn't want to do any tricks like special digital effects or lighting. It's pure optics. We stuck with those three key elements-glass, steel and timber. With almost 100 mirrors and 40 tonnes of steel, it took four days to install the complex and winding maze. The artists wanted to recreate the feeling of mirror mazes found in amusement parks more than a century ago. ==CHRISTIAN WAGSTAFF, "House of Mirrors" designer== That extraordinary mix of pleasure and joy and a little bit of terror and fear so there's a that real mix of emotions going on. The installation debuted at this year's Dark Mofo Festival in Hobart attracting 15,000 visitors. ==CHRISTIAN WAGSTAFF, "House of Mirrors" designer== How long does it take to walk through? Depends on how clever you are in working out the optics. == KEITH COURTNEY, "House of Mirrors" designer== Yeah, some people stay in there for over an hour. This is the first time 'House of Mirrors' has traveled to the Australian mainland. You can visit day or night, if you're brave enough, and children are welcome. House of Mirrors runs until the 11th of December in Brisbane and then will travel to Sydney for another festival. TRANSLATED BY:JESSICA OY
