On July 31, in a demonstration of inter-faith solidarity, Muslims in a northern suburb of Paris, attended a mass for the priest killed in a knife attack by self-proclaimed teenage terrorists. On July 26, Father Jacques Hamel was killed when two attackers linked to the IS interrupted mass and murdered him. The French Muslim Community Council urged Muslims all over the country to attend mass in a gesture of solidarity and compassion with the Catholic community. Since Saturday, Muslims have been joining Catholics around France for vigils, marches and masses to show solidarity and unity between their religious communities. ==FATHER EUGENE DOUSSAL Saint-Etienne du Rouvray== To forgive is to give, despite anger, resentment, so that life returns between ourselves and another, without which suffering moves in, remains and festers. On July 27, French President François Hollande convened a meeting of the country's religious leaders in a demonstration of interfaith unity. Afterwards, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Paris, Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, addressed journalists together with leaders of other Christian denominations as well as Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist leaders. They called for unity among all religious communities. Since Father Hamel's death, there have been calls within the Catholic church for him to be declared a martyr. TRANSLATED BY:CLARE LEAR
