The first spell of rainy season will hit on May 13, with heavy rain forecasted islandwide over the weekend. Temperatures will also drop.
The plum rain season has arrived, with thunderstorms and strong showers forecasted starting on the evening of the 13th. The Central Weather Bureau says all of Taiwan will get heavy rain on the 14th.
Chu Mei-lin, Weather Forecaster: “Taiwan's weather will be very unstable over the weekend due to a stagnant front. There will be heavy or torrential rain in the western and northeastern parts of the island as well as Kinmen and Matsu. ”
Temperatures also dropped islandwide on the 13th, with temperatures forecasted to fall below 20 degrees north of central Taiwan on the 16th and also dropping in southern and eastern Taiwan before rebounding on the 17th. Experts say the current rainy spell will last at least three days and could result in flooding, especially in central Taiwan.
Wu Sheng-yu, WeatherRisk Analyst: “Once the front starts moving south, it will bring rain to areas affected by the southwest monsoon. Central and southern Taiwan will be affected the longest.”
The entire island can expect heavy rain starting on the evening of the 13th due to the front moving south and the southeast monsoon.
逐日降雨趨勢預報圖上， 一片紅通通，今年梅雨季首波鋒面，13日週五晚間起報到，鋒面上雷雨胞發展旺盛，將移入大量水氣，帶來一波一波的短時強降雨。氣象局提醒，週六、週日降雨最劇烈，全台有雨。
預報員朱美霖提到：「週末兩天受到滯留鋒面的影響，台灣附近的環境是相當不穩定，尤其是在西半部東北部地區，還有金門馬祖的雨勢，相對來說會比較明顯一些，這些地方預期都可能會出現，局部的大雨或甚至是豪雨。」
除了劇烈強降雨，各地氣溫，也會明顯轉涼，相對週五還是偏暖舒適，週六、週日起，各地開始降溫轉涼，週一中部以北低溫會掉到20度以下，南部和花東也會有感降溫，週二起各地才會逐漸回溫。氣象專家分析，這一波梅雨鋒面，最需要注意的就是影響時間至少長達三天，隨著梅雨鋒面移入，中小尺度對流系統，會帶來瞬間強降雨，可能導致災害，目前預測，中部的總雨量會最大。
天氣風險公司分析師吳聖宇說：「整個鋒面由北邊下來以後，它會慢慢往南移動，那因為鋒面前的所謂西南季風的區域，通常都是雨最大的區域，那影響時間相對來講，中部、南部就會比較長。」
專家提醒，週五晚間起全台都有下雨機會，鋒面將由北往南移動，伴隨西南季風，降雨熱區中部要特別留意，南部和北部民眾也要小心防災，留意及時天氣資訊。
