Daily Caseload May Exceed 1,000 by Month-end: Chen 陳時中:北北基桃高風險 日增千例將有可能

Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung said that the daily caseload may reach 1,000 by the end of the month with the way of situation is developing. Chen also described Taipei, New Taipei City, Keelung, and Taoyuan as high-risk areas for infection.

New Taipei City has rolled out a home quarantine plan for COVID-19 patients with mild or asymptomatic cases. As part of the plan, city personnel check up with people quarantined at home to inquire about their health and show care. The city government has upgraded its quarantine and isolation care center to at-home COVID-19 care and concern center, and its 29 district offices have simultaneously established district-level care centers to assist those confined to their homes.

Hou Yu-ih, Mayor, New Taipei City: “When we receive notifications about cases, we will conduct health evaluations, and then determine whether special arrangements are needed for people with chronic diseases. ”

The central government is also preparing to launch its home quarantine plan for people aged 65 or under with mild or asymptomatic cases. The medications these people require will be delivered by pharmacists.

Huang Chin-shun, Chair, Federation of Taiwan Pharmacists Association: “The medications will be delivered to peoples' homes in 24 hours, regardless of what methods the pharmacists at NHI-affiliated pharmacies use. They will take pictures as well as call the recipients to explain how to use the medications.”

Health and Welfare Minister Chen Shih-chung said on April 12 that the current high-risk areas are Taipei, New Taipei City, Keelung, and Taoyuan, and there are so many transmission chains of unknown origin in the first two cities. He also said that based on the current progression, the daily caseload may exceed 1,000 by the end of April. There have been numerous complaints about the unavailability and high cost of at-home rapid test kits. Chen promised the price will be reduced to under NT$200.

Chen Shih-chung, Minister of Health and Welfare: “In the future, if we begin purchasing or requisitioning, we hope that this price will be within a reasonable range. However, the original price is completely the result of market mechanisms.”

Chen said the 200,000 free test kits handed out to Keelung residents identified 44 infections, 38 of which were confirmed by PCR tests. Contact was made with the other three high-risk areas on April 11 to ask them if they want to apply for test kits.
