Questions Arise From F16V Crash F-16V墜海疑點 飛行員長按無線電不放

While the search for the missing fighter jet is continuing, photos taken by some aviation fans became the new focus of the investigation as they showed an unusual situation where the plane's deceleration and air brakes were open.

Rescue personnel continue search and rescue operations against strong winds even in the dark night. No matter where the mission is in the air or at sea, the personnel have never given up any hope in finding the wrecked F-16V and pilot as soon as possible. So far, the Coast Guard has sent one large ship and seven smaller boats at sea and vehicles have been dispatched 45 times on the land. A total of 155 people have been involved in the rescue effort.

Looking back at the time of the incident, the wrecked fighter plane was preparing to conduct a large-angle, ground bombing exercise. The pilot appeared to have pressed and held the radio microphone for a long time. Aviation fans at the site photographed the aircraft's speed brake opened before its crash. A former F-16 instructor believed that this was not a normal situation.

Huang Wei-te, Former F-16 Seed Instructor: “The radio button is on top of the joystick. Then there is another thing under it called a speed brake. We can clearly see the rear two speed brakes are fully open. It looks like it's fully open. Then the radio again. Unless he's holding hands like this. But why would you hold your hands like this? Most pilots I know, including myself, would not do this because I don't need to move it.”

Although the ground bombing is a basic subject in Air Force training, Chang Yen-ting, a former Air Force Deputy Chief, analyzed that the pilot, Captain Chen Yi, is still relatively junior and there are many possible reasons for the crash.

Chang Yen-ting, Former Air Force Deputy Chief: “The sea and the sky are the same color and it's a big-angle bombing run. The height and space are constantly changing, creating a lot of burdens for him. He has dozens of things to consider within one second, which is a severe condition for a junior pilot to be operating in. Unfortunately, this happened. So I think we have to look at it in terms of multiple factors, not just a single factor.”

Huang also suggested that the Air Force try to collect photos taken by aviation fans to analyze the accident and avoid similar situations in the future.
