Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers are out in force showing their support for independent lawmaker Freddy Lim, Lim Tshiong-tso, who is facing a recall election. “Down with the recall! We support Freddy Lim!”
Democratic Progressive Party lawmakers show their support for independent lawmaker Freddy Lim, who is facing a recall election. DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming says Lim is an excellent lawmaker who needs to remain in the legislature.
Ker Chien-ming, DPP Caucus Whip: “We wouldn't be able to live with ourselves if we didn't speak up now. This is such an excellent (lawmaker). I've been saying, he should not be facing this kind of treatment.”
Freddy Lim, Legislator (IND): “Everyone is standing shoulder-to-shoulder with us from inside the legislature to outside on the street. I believe we will be victorious on Jan. 9.”
According to rumors, President Tsai Ing-wen herself may attend a Lim rally on the eve of the recall election. Independent Taipei City Councilor Lin Liang-chun and Social Democratic Party Taipei City Councilor Miao Po-ya, meanwhile are calling on young voters to rideshare to the polls.
Kao Yu-an, Spokesperson of Freddy Lim Recall Group: “The president herself is putting on a show of support for Lim Tshiong-tso. Does this show he is in even more dire straits than we thought? Does it mean you're a capable person if you found some people to come out and support you? He has completely violated the responsibilities of his office as an elected lawmaker.”
Pro-recall groups say Lim needs to face his constituents and address their concerns. The pro-recall groups are passing out flyers and hanging up banners at marketplaces. They are also planning a large-scale event on the eve of the election.
