There has been a wave of discussions across the country after high-profile DPP Legislator Kao Chia-yu revealed she was physically assaulted by her ex-boyfriend Lin Ping-shu. Lin has been reported to often make friends with lawmakers and officials to cultivate relationships to use for leverage.
Doctoral student and media commentator Lin Ping-shu, who is currently under court investigation for charges of physically assaulting ex-girlfriend DPP Legislator Kao Chia-yu, has been found to often make friends with powerful and influential people to cultivate relationships to use for leverage. The media reported Lin attending a gathering back in 2020 that involved politicians who have been advocates of student movements. Lin showed up to mingle and take pictures.
Kuo Kuo-wen, Legislator (DPP): “Lin called basically and said he'd like to come along to the gathering.”
Chung Chia-pin, Legislator (DPP): “Honestly, I wouldn't have remembered his presence without seeing this photo. ”
Fan Yun, Legislator (DPP): “I was meeting up with Legislator Kuo Kuo-wen and Chung Chia-pin. I didn't know Mr. Lin would be there as well.”
A 19-second video clip showed Lin forcing Kao to write a confession saying that she was to blame for the physical injuries. The video footage showed Kao with bruises on her eyes and blood on her face. It seemed Lin had no mercy.
Kao Chia-yu, KMT (DPP): “I believe the court will proceed with the rest of the investigations thoroughly.”
As investigation for this case of assault goes on, it has been discovered that as a leader of DPP's new movement online, Lin has used his political clout to influence public opinion and push certain political agendas. Lin allegedly has financial backing from undisclosed sources. The KMT is also raising charges against Lin on money laundering and other crime related.
Hsu Chiao-hsin, Legislator (KMT): “This case has expanded from domestic to political violence. Is the forging of documents involved with his financial resources? Does he really have that much financial power? The truth awaits. ”
KMT officials condemn Lin's claim as a national security member and actions of inciting online incivility. They are asking the court to be fair and just with proceeding investigations and penalize accordingly.
