France Having No Seismic Zones? Su Says "Half-right" 稱法國無地震帶 蘇揆: 對錯各一半

With referendums taking place in less than a month, the government has stepped up its campaign, with Premier Su Tseng-chang personally visiting Kaohsiung, and blasting the KMT over nuclear issues.

The government has stepped up its campaign to urge the population to vote "no" in all four of the year-end referendums. On Nov. 15, Premier Su Tseng-chang attended an information meeting in Kaohsiung, where he spent his time blasting the Kuomintang. The KMT has proposed restarting the fourth nuclear power plant, and Su said that the party made both the decision to build the plant and to mothball it. He claimed restarting the plant would destroy Taiwan. During a legislative interpellation on Nov. 16, KMT Legislator Lo Ming-tsai said Su's statement about France having no seismic zones was a lie. Su admitted his statement was incorrect and apologized to Lo.

Su Tseng-chang, Premier: “You're half right and I'm half right. There is in fact a seismic zone in a tiny mountainous area in the southeast part. However, the frequency of earthquakes in France is much lower than that of Taiwan. The scale is much smaller than that of Taiwan. Their nuclear power plants aren't built on faults.  ”

Another referendum is on whether to allow ractopamine pork. Agriculture Minister Chen Chi-chung is pushing hard in favor of ractopamine pork. He said it will be very inconvenient if the referendum passes, and insinuated it will affect Taiwan-US trade.

Chen Chi-chung, Agriculture Minister: “If you use a referendum to reverse it, then there will definitely be huge difficulties the next time that the country wants to join any large trade organization. ”

Chen said the referendums aren't contests between political parties, and they will influence Taiwan's future entry in international trade organizations. A media report recently indicated blue-leaning businesses and business owners have decided to vote "no" in all four referendums due to economic concerns. The Democratic Progressive Party gave credit to its information meetings, while the KMT questioned the report.

Liu Shyh-fang, Legislator (DPP): “It doesn't matter whether they're blue or green. The color doesn't matter. Their concern is the country's economic development. Some of the cases mentioned by the referendums are vague and won't allow Taiwan to move forward.”

Lin Wei-chou, Legislator (KMT): “I don't believe this. There are many conditions to join the CPTPP, it's very stringent. Is eating ractopamine pork one of those conditions? ”

The KMT questioned the report, saying it's not suitable for Taiwan to import ractopamine pork. It also said it divided up tasks by working with grassroots members and convening caucus meetings. It will respond to the DPP's mobilization efforts.

力拚公投「四個不同意」，行政院長蘇貞昌15號晚間在高雄說明會火力全開，砲口對準國民黨，對於國民黨提出重啟核四，蘇貞昌反嗆，不論興建還是封存，都是國民黨的決定，如今重啟核四，就是要弄垮台灣，不過，國民黨立委羅明才16號質詢時，指控蘇貞昌騙他法國沒有地震帶，蘇貞昌坦言說法不正確，當面向羅明才道歉。

行政院長蘇貞昌表示:「一半你對，一半我對，東南部一小山區有地震帶，但法國地震頻率比台灣少太多，規模比台灣小太多了，而它的核電廠也沒有蓋在地震斷層帶上。」

至於四大公投中，萊豬議題呈現正反膠著局面，農委會主委陳吉仲不諱言，若萊豬公投過關會很麻煩，影響台美貿易。

農委會主委陳吉仲表示:「你同意用公投去把它反過來，這樣未來國家要參加任何重大的經貿組織，一定是困難重重。」

陳吉仲指出，公投案不是政黨對決，攸關國家未來走向國際經貿組織的重要議題。針對平面媒體鏡週刊報導，「經濟藍」以及企業主考量公投案牽涉經濟發展，轉向支持「四個不同意」，民進黨歸功於宣講以及說明會，國民黨立委則高度質疑。

民進黨立委劉世芳表示:「不管他是藍綠，其實是沒有顏色的，他們認為站在國家經濟發展的這個歷程上面，公投所提的這個案件裡面，有些是模糊，沒有辦法讓我們台灣往前走一步。」
 

國民黨立委林為洲表示:「我不相信這種說法，CPTPP加入有很多條件，非常嚴格，有沒有吃萊豬會是關鍵的條件嗎?」

藍營不相信這番說法，認為台灣不適合進口萊豬，也指出藍營深入地方基層，召開黨團大會就是要做任務分配，也注意到民進黨總動員製造聲量，國民黨也會有所回應。
