小港區沿海路5車連環撞  一駕駛當場死亡 Calls for national Freeway 7 get louder after accident

The necessity of the 7th national Freeway resurfaces as a driver died in the deadly serial crash. 


Presenter: Yanhai Road in Kaohsiung's Xiaogang District is accident-prone as it is often used by container trucks and trailers. A city councilor says National Freeway 7 should be completed as quickly as possible after a five-car accident occurred.

Rescue personnel arrive at the site of the accident, where there is a five-vehicle pileup awaiting them. The vehicles include a container truck and a semi-trailer, which has pinned a small passenger vehicle between them. The car was severely damaged and the driver died at the scene.

Chiang Shu-fen, Corps Captain, Fire Bureau, Kaohsiung City:“ The fourth vehicle, a small passenger vehicle, was hit by a big truck behind it and the driver was trapped inside.”

This accident occurred on Yanhai Road in Kaohsiung’s Xiaogang District. Container trucks and semi-trailers frequently use the road, as it serves an industrial zone and the port, and accidents often occur. National Freeway 7 was proposed by the government many years ago, but controversies have prevented work from starting. Kaohsiung City Councilor Chen Chih-chung called for work to start as quickly as possible or else the deadly car accident on the 29th won’t be the last.

Chen Chih-chung, Kaohsiung City Councilor (DPP):” Let’s give the large vehicles coming out of the industrial zone and part, whether they are container trucks, pallet trucks, or semi-trailers, their own road with direct access to the freeway.”

There are many people who have different opinions.

Chien Chih-chiang, Head, Anti-Nat’l Freeway 7’s Planned Route Self-Help Assoc.:” It would of course be great if you have separate lanes for large and small vehicles and civilian vehicles. What we’re saying is we don’t oppose National Freeway 7, we oppose the currently planned route. The planned route is not the optimal one.”

A self-help association said it is not against infrastructure, but the National Freeway 7 plan has too many blemishes. If improvements are made, they of course won’t have anything left to say. The city government said it will speed up the process and try to complete the road by 2028.

高市消防局三大隊第三中隊長 江淑芬:「其中第四部的自小客車,遭後方大貨車撞擊,受困在車內。」

高雄小港區沿海路,鄰近工業區及港口,貨櫃車、聯結車往來頻繁,事故也多,政府規劃的國道七號,爭議多年還沒動工,也讓當地議員陳致中沈痛呼籲,趕緊讓國七動工,否則29號晚間的死亡車禍不會是最後一件。

民進黨高雄市議員 陳致中:「必須把這些從工業區,從港區出來的大型車輛,貨櫃車也好、拖板車、聯結車,讓他有一個專用道,可以直接上高速公路。」

但國七規劃至今仍有民眾持反對意見。

反國七現行路線大寮自救會長 簡志強:「你如果說是大車跟小車,可以跟一般的民用車分道,當然是很好。所以就是呼籲,我們並不叫做反國道七號,我們是反國道現行規劃路線,現行規劃路線不是最好的路線。」

自救會說,他們不反對國家建設,但國七有太多設計及路線的瑕疵,若一一克服,他們自然不會再有意見,市府也表示,會加快速度,力拚2028年能完工。
