Taiwan Weather Will Shift on May 26 Due to Front Activity|太陽短暫露臉 明梅雨鋒面報到全台變天

As most of us enjoyed sunshine on Sunday and Monday, the weather will become unstable again starting Tuesday when another wave of fronts hovers over Taiwan. Regarding the 5.2-magnitude earthquake that took place at 6:31 a.m. on May 25, the Central Weather Bureau said it was a "normal energy release".


A rainy season front is heading for southern Taiwan and will likely bring rain to southern and eastern parts of the island, with more fronts expected to bring more rain to all of Taiwan on the 26th.

Starting last night through Wednesday, fronts are heading south and the eastern half of the island will get short showers or thundershowers or heavier rainfall in some areas. Everyone should be careful of unstable weather through Thursday.

The fronts will start moving away from Taiwan on the 29th, but the south will still get some rain. There was a 5.2-magnitude earthquake off of Yilan and Hualien at 6:31 a.m. on the 25th, with class 4 tremors in Yilan's Suao, class 3 in Hualien and class 2 in Taipei. The Seismological Center says the quake was nothing out of the ordinary.

This is earthquake activity in an earthquake zone. Based on data from the last two decades, there are is on average one 5-plus earthquake every year. The last larger earthquake was the 6.2 one on Aug. 8 last year.

Due to precautionary measures, Taiwan Railways temporarily slowed train speeds, affecting 17 trains and 2,430 passengers. Regular service resumed at 8:52 a.m.

氣象預報員 徐仲毅表示：「明天的晚上開始，到禮拜三這段時間，是一個鋒面南下的過程。那鋒面南下的過程，整個西半部地區、東北部地區，有短暫的陣雨或是雷雨，而且可能有局部性的大雨。一直到禮拜四，都是鋒面影響的時間，大家要特別注意。」

週五之後，鋒面逐漸遠離台灣的過程中，南臺灣還是會有局部降雨，而週一25號清晨六點31分，宜蘭花蓮外海附近，發生規模5.2地震，宜蘭蘇澳，震度達到四級，花蓮三級，台北市也有二級，地震測報中心分析，這個位置是板塊交接處，過去本來就很常發生地震，屬於正常能量釋放。

地震測報中心課長 林祖慰表示：「在這個地方，也算是地震活動相對比較頻繁活躍的一個地方，那在過去20年資料來看的話，平均每年，大概都會有一個規模5以上的地震發生。在最近一次規模比較大的一個地震，就在去年的8月8日父親節那時候，有規模6.2的地震發生。」

受到這起地震影響，宜蘭到和平間路段，一度降速行駛，台鐵派員巡查路線及電車線設備後，08:52列車恢復正常行駛，通勤時間，影響17列次、旅客約2,430人。
