Don't Let Your Children Cross Street by Themselves: Police|2歲童闖馬路被撞 警:父母違反道安

Keep a keen eye on your children while crossing the road. A two-year-old child in Taichung City ran onto the road and was hit by a car. Police say the child's parents have violated the Regulations Governing Road Traffic Safety by allowing a child under the age of 14 to cross the street by himself.

The driver screams after hitting a two-year-old boy that suddenly ran out onto the street. The child lies unmoving on the ground. Moments later, the parents appear and pick him up. Because the boy appeared out of nowhere, the driver had no time to brake.

I had no time to react at all.

The accident took place at 2 p.m. on the 1st. The driver had just turned onto Taiyuan Road. The boy's parents were standing on the right side of the road, while the boy was on the left with an adult in his general vicinity. The adult was not holding the boy's hand. Police say the boy's parents violated the Regulations Governing Road Traffic Safety.

People should look both ways when they cross the street. These parents violated Article 139 of the Regulations Governing Road Traffic Safety by letting an unaccompanied child under 14 years of age cross the street by himself.

The boy sustained multiple injuries all over his body and was rushed to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition in the ICU. Taichung traffic police say parents should pay attention to their children when crossing the street.

Parents shouldn't let a child cross the street by himself. They should cross the street with the child while keeping a tight grasp on their hand. Their full attention should be on their child when crossing the street. Distractions like cell phones or conversations with other people can wait.

Apart from not letting children cross the street by themselves, parents should also teach their children the correct way to cross the street.
