Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake Hit Osaka, Japan|日本大阪規模6.1強震 災情持續擴大

Taiwan is experiencing temperamental weather, while a magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit northern Osaka in Japan, around 7 a.m.,Taipei Time. Though the earthquake did not lead to a tsunami, but it caused water and electricity outages and the collapse of several buildings, which led to deaths and injuries.


The shelves have all tilted, and the books have fallen to the floor. At 6:58 am, Taiwan time, a magnitude 6.1 earthquake took place in Osaka Prefecture. By 10:30 in the morning, more than 10 aftershocks have taken places in the area.

The magnitude of the earthquake below the ground is 5.9, and we now update it to 6.1. The core of the quake is 13 kilometers below ground in northern Osaka Prefecture.

The City of Takatsuki in Osaka Prefecture suffered heavy damage. Many parts of the roads have caved in, causing severe leakage in underground water pipes. There is also water leakage from the ceiling of Takatsuki JR Train Station, forcing the pubic to walk around it. The passengers also have to walk to nearby train stations since the train in their station have been forced to stop. The quake also caused several fires in local residence buildings.

The earthquake began when I was walking to the train station. It was quite a terrifying shake.

The shake was vertical. It felt more terrifying than sideway wobbles.

In the last few days, there have been earthquakes of between magnitude 4 and 5 that took place in Gunma and Chiba Prefecture. The latest magnitude 6.1 quake has caused several deaths among the public due to collapsed buildings. Over 170,000 local households suffer from electricity outage, another 108,000 thousand households' natural gas supply is cut off. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the government will do all it can to rescue the public in need, as well as set up shelters to accommodate those who lost their homes.
