Civil servant organizations staged a demonstration on Sept. 3. They gathered at the Ketagalan Boulevard to protest the DPP administration's pension reform plan, which they say stigmatizes civil servants and polarizes different sectors. Huge crowds packed the streets. The organizers said 250,000 protesters showed up, while the police estimated there were around 100,000 people.

We have earned out pension lawfully. We are not vested-interest groups.

==KENG CHI-WEN, Retired Police Officer==
We are law abiding civil servants. I think what the government is doing is unfair to us.

Many current civil servants and workers also joined the protest. They said they don't want pension reform to cause polarization between different sectors or generations. They also called on the government to focus on labor issues.

==LI LAI-HSI, National Civil Servant Association President==
We lived in harmony, but political party maneuvering has polarized our society.

==HSIEH SHEN-MING, TRA Labor Union President==
Many retired colleagues came here with me to protest. They are worried that they cannot live a dignified life in retirement.

The Kuomingtang has expressed strong support for the protest. KMT chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu also attended the march. She criticized President Tsai Ing-Wen for labeling and stigmatizing civil servants.
